Remy was our first retained daughter out of our herd queen Frida. We were anxious about her ability to settle last fall because she was overconditioned, but she wound up doing so easily, maturing into a beautiful frame and easily having buck and doe twins. She is only getting prettier every day.

Our linear appraiser was probably more excited about Remy than any other doe in our herd, assigning her E for her rear legs and a final score of 83. This is a fantastic and exciting score for a first freshener, especially given that Remy first freshened as a two-year-old and does not yet have the mammary capacity that she will develop in future years. We did not show her this summer as we had some doubts about her ability to compete in the two-year-old category as a first freshener, but she is surely going to see the show ring next year.

Remy is an improvement over her dam in overall structural traits and especially rump length and angle, but she inherited Frida's wonderful mammary system. Frida's mammary is aging beautifully and is high, healthy and taut at seven years old, so we expect Remy's udder to age similarly. She is very pleasant to handmilk with long, well-placed teats, large easy-to-express orifices and excellent stand manners.

Yes, she is named after the Grateful Dead song.
