Scarlet is a treasure. She lost an udder half to mastitis in 2024 so she may not get the milk accolades she deserves, but she is the best mom we've got, second in command in the herd, and a dignified, healthy, parasite-resistant doe. We are so grateful to have the opportunity to work with her to establish a major damline in our herd.

​Our appraiser was very excited about Scarlet in 2024 (though Scarlet was not very happy to be asked to wear a collar and led around). She said Scarlet had all the beautiful dairy qualities she looks for and the steady, balanced, strong-but-dairy frame she always hopes to see. Even with just half an udder she easily scored an E in mammary. We were so proud for Scarlet to be scored VEEE 90 as we knew she deserved. ​

Scarlet is beautifully conformed lady with a long, wide, deep barrel. Her udder is our favorite quality among her many strengths: nice attachments, strong medial ligament and division of the halves, plumb teats and lovely, buttery udder texture with great orifice size. If she has a failing it is that she is a little shallow in her brisket but her kids are regularly improving on brisket extension so far.

Because she has lost a half, we plan to freshen Scarlet just one more time via AI. We love her line so much we are aiming to get a buckling from her to work with in future years, and then she will become a friend, grandma and lawn ornament in her retirement.
